Lila and Joel’s intimate wedding at Casa Olivi

Lila and Joel came from the United States to get married in Le Marche, with only the people closest to them: their parents, their brothers and their sisters.

Their request was simple, and it’s the kind I love most: stay with us for a few hours and photograph whatever happens, with no script. Just be there with us.

Lila got ready with her two sisters, Joel with his brother and his father.
Then a few chairs on the lawn, and a ceremony that was short, quiet and deeply felt.

Afterwards there was a short walk among the olive trees, a bottle opened to seal the vows, and the sun going down over the hills. To close the day came a wonderful homemade cake.

Joel’s parents brought a story of their own.
Back home they often buy Fazi Battaglia Verdicchio, the white wine of Le Marche, for their aperitivos and dinners, and being in the land where it is made made them very happy. So the glasses were filled with Verdicchio, of course.

A few moments, but full of meaning. By the end of the day I felt like part of the family.

Wedding Venue

Casa Olivi, Treia: the venue

Casa Olivi is a large villa on top of a hill, surrounded by nothing but olive groves and countryside, with a breathtaking view over the valley.
The nearest village is Treia, a short drive away.

The house is a farmhouse around three hundred years old, restored by the Swiss architects Wespi de Meuron.
Today it is elegant and minimalist: a large kitchen and living room, white plaster walls and a staircase leading up to the bedrooms.

Outside there is a big garden with cypresses and olive trees, but the real heart of the villa is the terrace, with an infinity pool looking out over the hills.

With five bedrooms for up to eleven guests, it is a place made for small weddings, where the whole family can stay together under one roof. It’s a place I’m always happy to go back to.

Treia and the surroundings

Treia is a small hilltop town with a beautiful medieval centre, old walls and a main square that looks out over the countryside.
Every summer it hosts the Disfida del Bracciale, a historic festival built around a traditional ball game.

Macerata, with its summer opera festival in the Sferisterio, is about twenty minutes away.
The Adriatic coast and Ancona airport are within an hour’s drive.
It is a quieter, less travelled corner of Italy, perfect for couples who want the countryside without the crowds.
